This basics video tutorial shows you how to make a fake/virtual threshold for binary inputs from the keyboard or the gamepad in GameMaker Studio.

The idea is quite simple. You want the keyboard or gamepad to have a threshold which doesn’t exist on those buttons. They can be only pressed or not pressed (gamepad thumbs excluded). So we remedy that by increasing a number. That we do by pressing and reset it to zero if no key is pressed. If that number is big enough you can use it in a virtual/fake threshold way to start moving or increase walkspeed or any other way you wish. That’s it
