This video tutorial is a rough guide into programming languages and what they in principle do. The focus is here on GML which stands for GameMaker language and is a yoyo defined programming language for GameMaker Studio 1 and 2.

The good this is, that GML is very similar to other high tier programming languages like java, python or javascript and is therefore a good starting programming language. It is made easier, flexible, is more forgiving and allows newcomers an easier access into programming.

What you need to understand that programming languages have a syntax and basically consist roughly of two building blocks. Variables and operators. So in essense you do set/get variables or comparing them via logical operations in instances during runtime.

This is by no means a full guide, rather a quick and dirty dirty dash through core concepts that are a must to be understood in every programming language.
